Anxiety does not have to control you.

Do you find yourself struggling with intrusive anxious thoughts? If so here are some helpful tips to take control of your life again.

Making Anxiety More Manageable

Excessive anxiety can be such a burden and it feels like worrying thoughts can plague your mind constantly. But there is a simple solution, schedule time to worry and be anxious. How? Is this possible? By small actions we can get great results. This may sound paradoxical, but it works.

First, you already schedule time to do other unpleasant things in your life, like doing laundry, cleaning you toilet, and cleaning up your room. With that same mindset you can do the same with your anxiety. Second, pick a time each day to worry and allow your anxiousness to completely wash over you. You may think I am joking, but I am completely serious. If you schedule a time to worry and be completely anxious you can tell yourself, “It isn’t time for this, I scheduled a very specific time to really worry and stress out,” and then you push that worry out of your mind until it is time.

Being Anxious on Purpose

When the time comes to worry you spend the entire scheduled time really engrossed in the worry. I want you to be almost sweating because you are singularly focused on worrying. You may even contort your face and play brooding music to really set the mood for your worry session. Next, make your time to worry and stress out actually impressive. Furthermore, worrying about failing or not being good enough starts with worrying correctly.

Turning Off You Brain

Your mind is like a stage or a television, only one thing or channel can be on at a time. Sometimes there are commercials, but you don’t have to sit there while those commercials play. Just as you can change the channel of your television, you have control over the stage of your mind. You might have a Zen Playlist of music that gets you in a more peaceful place, if you don’t have such a playlist, it is easy to make. To that point, try right now to just experience your mind totally devoid of thought. Really. Try right now to feel yourself in the moment. If you have a little list of things running through your head just let them fade away while focusing on the feeling of sitting down.

Gaining Real Control

Once you start experiencing how to wield your focus and attention and bring order to your inner self, you will find it much easier to accept things in your outer world.
