Meditation Made Easy

Meditation is easy and simple. This blog post will give you a simple and easy “How to” and I will also link to my favorite guided mindfulness meditation.

  1. First, give yourself permission to take time to meditate. All you really need is 5 minutes at the minimum, maybe even just 2 or 3.

  2. Second, find a place where you can be alone. It could be your room or your closet. Go to that place and take a seat on the ground or on a couch or chair.

  3. Thirdly, sit down in a relaxed manner with either both feet on the floor if you are on a chair or sofa, or if you are on the ground just cross your legs in a relaxed manner.

  4. Fourth, shut your eyes.

  5. Fifth, start focusing on your breathing. Breathe deep enough to get your lungs open but not too deep that you are straining yourself.

  6. Then, focus on a part of your breathing. It could be your nostrils, your lungs expanding, the thumping of your heart, or your diaphragm going in and out.

  7. Refocus: You will get distracted. You did not fail, this is the heart of meditation. If you get distracted refocus on your breathing. You may even label what distracted you and then refocus on your breathe.

  8. Penultimately, repeat Step 7.

  9. Finally, when you are in the mindful state you start to become aware of yourself in the present. You hear the buzz of electricity, the cars passing you outside, the noises of your house creaking, or the thumping of your heart

Seeking perfection is outside the realm of meditation

Meditation is about being aware of the present moment, such as feeling your feet in your socks, the texture of your clothing against your skin, the fabric of the chair against your body. Now you are ready to try it out for yourself.
